We hope you’re enjoying our tour of some of this season’s most exciting new fabric releases. Today, we’re meeting the designer behind one of the most talked-about new lines at Quilt Market in Salt Lake City last month. Katy and I had the opportunity to meet Emily Herrick, the creative mind behind Crazy Old Ladies Quilts, in her beautiful (and award-winning) booth as she introduced passers-by to her debut fabric collection with Michael Miller Fabrics, Going Coastal. Naturally, we wanted to get to know Emily a bit more and learn about her decidedly beachy new collection … and we thought you might want to eavesdrop on our conversation.
Oh, and Emily was totally game for playing along in our “masthead takeover” program. Take a look at our absolutely coastal new blog header!
Tell us a little bit about yourself, and how you became interested in sewing and quilting.
I am a thirty-something, stay at home Mom. And while I love that I am able to be at home with my kids I really need something to do for ME. Several years ago before I was expecting my youngest child I got the urge to make a very SPECIFIC quilt. I spent hours and hours on it and was very pleased with how it turned out. The town I lived in holds a little quilt show every year so I decided to enter the quilt I had made. To my astonishment it won Best of Show and I was hooked. I’ve been quilting like crazy ever since. Oh, you want to know about that SPECIFIC quilt? Well, after many years of contemplating I’ve decided to finally release it as a pattern. So watch for it later this summer!
How did you then transition your love of quilting into pattern design and, now, fabric design?
My passion for quilting is all about the creative outlet. From the time I started quilting I have always made up my own designs. I would go into a quilt shop, see a quilt hanging and think “That quilt it really cool. I think I want to make that. Except instead of this, I’ll do this. And Instead of that part right there, I’ll do this instead.” I would rarely buy a quilt pattern because I never had intentions of following it. I would go home, start cutting and sewing, and by the time I had the top finished I had a completely different quilt.
I don’t think my patterns are better or more original than anyone else’s out there- their just ME. I decided to start marketing them when many of my friends and acquaintances asked about them. I figure- I’m designing them anyway, might as well see if someone else wants them too? And here I am.
I didn’t know I wanted to design fabric until I had an idea of what I wanted to see on fabric. I knew that the ideas I had in my head I had never seen on fabric before- at least not the way I was envisioning them. So I started drawing. Pretty soon I had a good sized folder of drawings. At that point I was so in love with those sketches I couldn’t bear the thought of never having them in fabric to play with. Now I’m lucky enough to be working with the folks at Michael Miller to bring those sketchy drawings to print.
What can readers expect to find when they visit your blog, Crazy Old Ladies Quilts? And how did you come up with that name?
My blog is totally ME. I try to write it as if I’m talking to the reader. I hope that if my readers ever meet me in person that they feel like they already know me from my blog. I post pictures of projects I’m working on, new patterns I’ve designed, tidbits of my crazy life and links to blog-land to see things I think are amazing!
So you want to know how I became a Crazy Old Lady? Well, hold on to your hat! The name came about when I started quilting. Shortly after I kicked my son out of his room to make a craft room my husband came in to see me slumped over my machine. He looked at me and shook his head “You’re going to become one of those crazy old ladies that sits around and sews all the time, aren’t’ you!?” he said. ABSOLUTELY! So naturally, when I decided to start marketing my patterns that was the name I chose. Although most people think it refers strickly to me, it’s really a stereotypical reference to all quilters. With love, of course.

We were very excited to see your new line, “Going Coastal”, at Quilt Market! How did you come upon designing fabric for Michael Miller?
The planets must’ve been aligned in my favor. I hadn’t planned on approaching Michael Miller. I was a little intimidated by some of their designers and thought they were way out of my league. However, someone suggested I go for it and I decided I better do it before I lose my nerve. I still have to pinch myself- it’s just unreal. Everyone at Michael Miller is so awesome, I can’t imagine being anywhere else.
“Going Coastal” has a distinct beach vibe. From where did you draw your inspiration for this collection? Did you grow up near the coast, or Is there a particular beach that you enjoy visiting?
I wish I could say I grew up on the beach- but it’s just not so. I did grow up in northern California about an hour from the coast but we only hit the beach once a year or so. There’s something about the beach that draws people to it. If I could live there I would. It doesn’t matter which beach. Now I live in Utah and there is no beach. But I dream of it often. Just to hear the crashing waves, the screech of the gulls, the smell of the salt in the air….Um, I think I need a vacation.
My favorite beach is near Bodega Bay in California because of all the memories of going there as a child. I also have a special place in my heart for Seal Beach in southern California because of a day trip there a few years back. But there are TONS of other beaches that I would love to visit. Anywhere on the East Coast would be amazing and of course, Florida, Hawaii, and Mexico. Maybe someday.
The inspiration came from the places I have been and all the places I would like to go. I’ve seen beach prints before and there are lots of great ones, but I wanted something…different. It sounds cheesy to say but it’s true. I wanted prints that you might actually see on the coast. Think Pottery Barn and J crew. That was the feel I was going for.
Tell us a little bit about each print in the collection.
First and foremost I knew I couldn’t do a beachy theme without plaid. I LOVE all things plaid. This one had to be just-right. I wanted a patchwork print that looks as though it’s been pieced, but it’s not. This print carries the line and gives it the feel I wanted to achieve.
The Bottle Cap was one of the first prints I drew. It has a nostalgic vibe to it that I adore.
I love to see finger starfish in décor so that had to be one of my prints.
The sand dollars are my polka dot- I love the shading and the slight flower trademark of a real sand dollar.
I HAD to draw that crab! For some reason he was just speaking to me. I lovingly nicknamed that print ‘crabby patty’ (SpongeBob anyone?)
The sea-kelp came last because as a quilter, I know that there needs to be a floral-ish print in there too. I’m so glad I added it- I can’t imagine the line without it!
What types of projects do you think would be best suited for this collection? What might be some good quilt patterns that our readers can use to really show off and complement the prints and colors?
I designed a few patterns specifically to show the prints and carry on the coastal feeling I was going for. Cabana and Beachin’ are my favorites. But I also really like Liliana because of its feminine feel.
A personal project that I want to do includes the patchwork plaid and white to make Vanessa’s Hounds-tooth quilt. *heart* http://vandco.bigcartel.com/product/houndstooth-quilt-pdf-pattern
I made a beach ball for my booth at market using the pattern at http://www.purlbee.com/fabric-beach-balls/ I didn’t have all my prints yet, so I had to use what I had. It was super fun and EASY to do.
I am hoping to make my little girl a sundress using a few of the prints too. I can see the patchwork plaid and bottle cap prints in all kinds of children’s clothing. Heck, I may even make something for me!
Aside from your collection, what are your 5 favorite fabric prints right now?
I LOVE this question! And it’s so hard to narrow down just 5.
At the top of my list right now is the complete collection of STORYBOEK by Birch fabrics. Oh my gosh- LOVE IT! I’ve got as project in works with it right now. I can’t wait! *squeal!*
Also, PRINCE CHARMING. That Tula always produces some amazing prints. I’m seeing this done with my Merry-Go-Round pattern.
I know you said prints, but you meant collections, right!? ;o)
I’m trying to remember all the lines I saw at market…..hmmm……
I’d have to say CHILDREN AT PLAY is right up there. Not just because she’s another M&M designer- I have been a fan of Sarah Jane’s work for a long time. And now, to have it in fabric! I want to sew this in my Backyard Circus pattern- I think it would bring a new life to it.
Sweetwater’s HOMETOWN is sitting on my table. I LOVE the color pallete. I am such a sucker for the more muted or subdued color palette. I don’t know what I’m making with it yet because I’m still afraid to cut it.
) Although, as I’m sitting here thinking, I may have to do my Postage Due pattern- those little squares- oh, I can see it.
More love for fellow M&M designer- Violet Craft’s PEACOCK LANE. Um, it has elephants in it. (I *heart* elephants) As soon as I saw that line I knew I wanted to make my Out of Time pattern (without the appliqué letters). Yum!

I have always loved the northern beaches of Maine. They are rocky and beautiful!
It’s really rainy here today so the thought of sunshine and beaches is wonderful. My favourite beach is Gwithian Sands in north Cornwall (UK) it is long and beautiful, sadly I don’t think we’ll make it there this summer, but maybe some Going Coastal fabric would make up for that! Thanks for the giveaway.
I grew up near Myrtle Beach, not the prettiest beach in the world but definitely fun. Love this fabric!
I grew up near South Padre Island, TX and have salt water running in my veins. I LOVE< LOVE< LOVE this fabric and can't wait to get my hands on it. I need to make the cabana pattern for my son's nautically themed room. It would be so perfect in there.
Thanks for the giveaway!
I love the beach. I love scuba diving with my hubby. Sadly that hasn’t happened in a few years and won’t happen for a while longer since we have a baby on the way
After(during) a hot day at the beach, I love the refreshing flavor of a full calorie Sprite!
My favorite beach is Waikiki in Hawaii. After being there how could it be anwhere else?!
I would loves Bali beaches, Indonesia….
…
Beautiful scenery and windy winds…missed the voice of the ocean wave
Thanks for the generous giveaway..Fantastic and lovely design!!!
I do have a great memory of the WHOLE family being at the beach together. That is a lot to say for a military family.. quite often dad was gone, and we went alone.. so my best memory at the beach was when we all went, and the kids could jump off dad’s shoulders. They really had such a wonderful time, and it was great to see.
Hard to choose, but my best beach vacation so far was in Croatia. Thanks for the giveaway.
Favorite memory … taking our boys to the beach for the first time last fall. We are about 8 hours from a beach. So fun to watch them discover the sand and salt water. Love this fabric!!! I am anxious to make a new picnic quilt and this would be so fun to have
THanks for the give away!
I grew up going to the beaches at the jersey shore, but my favorite vacation beach is on the island of Nevis.
I remember being AMAZED every time I went to the ocean beach as a child (which wasn’t that often) that I would actually see real sand dollars on the beach. To me, they were little miracles, and I loved them.
I’m not very good in the sun so beaches tend to be avoided but I do remember visiting Monkey Mia, in Western Australia on my gap year and finding it all very Zen. If I need a quiet moment, I usually end up seeing myself sat on the beach there.
excited for this fun collection! such great color and vibe!
i remember being a kid so excited for our trip to RI…we were staying a whole week near the beach…well, when we got there, it was some event going on with the jelly fish…they all washed up to shore and made it dangerous to be swimming…so we spent the week at the beach, but not much in the water! still ag reat trip…really learned to love the smells of the beach that visit!
I love the beaches of Half Moon Bay. San Gregorio comes to mind. And East Beach, in Santa Barbara. Beach next to mountains- nothing better in the world!
Block Island, Rhode Island, has fabulous beaches!
I grew up in New England, and really miss those rocky, cold water beaches along the NH/ME coast. Sigh. Now I’m homesick!
I love walking on beaches and swimming in the ocean. I haven’t been in so long and this post makes me want to pack the car and go! Too bad the whole work thing gets in the way. My favorite beach is Corolla Beach on North Carolina’s Outer Banks. Gorgeous and lots of great shopping too.
I really miss warm beaches, but living in the Pacific Northwest they are just too far away to visit often! Instead we have visited the Cannon Beach area in Oregon a few times, and it’s always a great time – I take my dogs out and swim them in the ocean. Somehow there is always some people who find me with four dogs and a bucket of tennis balls to be quite entertaining!
I love that kelp pattern…and the crabs.
Every summer I used to go to Long Beach Island (NJ) with my best friend’s family. All of the storm drains have blue crabs painted in front of them to remind people that what you put in the storm drain, goes into the bay. We used to make a game out of riding over all of the painted crabs with our bikes (sounds weird, but we were kids!). The blue crabs in the Going Coastal line make me think of those beach vacations. I’ll have to pick some up to make a little goody for my friend! Thanks for the giveaway – if I win I can make my friend a big goody!
I love those crabs and bottle caps! Reminds me of my favorite beach which we just call “the cove” in Maryland on the Nanicoke River. Fantastic line! Thanks for sharing!
I have lots of memories of all the Cape Cod beaches from growing up. Great new line, and I had fun checking out your other favorite new lines as well!
I love going to Vancouver Island. Such a treat to have all the coastal views coming from land locked Calgary.
My favourite beach is Mitjorn in Formentera island.
I love Hawaii beaches!
We had the great pleaasure of living in SoCal for 10 months, and we took advantage of the Laguna Beach and Dana Point beaches often, I learned to not be afraid of swimming in the ocean as much there. I learned to boogie board, and enjoy whole afternoons in the sun (I’m usually a cloudy day girl). There ws a little shop in Laguna Beach where they fit you with toe rings, and a wonderful restaurant called Las Brisas, a sweet little breakfast place called The Cottage…. I need to go back! It was so fun to live near it, even for such a short time.
i am currently living in illinois. not exactly the beach capital of the world…. but our honeymoon in maui was perfect, and the memory of those glorious beaches lives on!
I really love the beaches of St. John, USVI. I also really love the Going Coastal collection. I especially love the plaid. I can not wait until it hits the stores.
Love the beach. The plaid in this collections takes me right back to summers spent on Jones Beach in New York.
My family had a beach house in Avalon, NJ, for twenty years. I loved that place, even (and sometimes especially) in the dead of winter. It became overgrown and full of bar crawls, and they sold the house and bought a sailboat they named “Avalon” in memory of those times. We had a beach blanket there that was made of one of the plaids in this collection – and spent hours picking and eating plenty of steamed blue crabs there on the deck – and I can’t wait to get my hands on some of this fabric to make some memories with.
My favorite beach is any beach that I can sit and rest upon. The beach brings me some much needed peace. It is such a gift to sit and look at the water, feed the birds and just listen to the waves. These fabrics speak to me in a way that really makes me want them NOW!!!!
I love the gentle waves of the Gulf Coast in Florida. I can’t wait to sew with that plaid!
In Spain we have wonderful beaches, including the Canary Islands. But the most beautiful I’ve ever seen and visited is Jambiani Beach, Zanzibar (Tanzania).
Thanks a lot!
Oh my sea kelp, I absofreakinglutely *LOVE* this line! Had to de-lurk to say that…LOL!
back in 2009, We took our Airstream up to New England. Hubby had a job project up there and we got to enjoy the coast. Lately I’ve been “homesick” for those days, which were so wonderful, so peaceful, and so darn happy… And this fabric line made me smile…
Love it. Love it. Love it!
I’ve been to a handful of great beaches but I’m not sure I have a favorite. Some that I liked are those on the big island of Hawaii, in Cancun, on the outer banks of NC, and on the Oregon Coast. Also, when I was in my 20′s I went to Venice Beach in California and that was a unique experience! LOVE the fabrics, thanks for the chance to win!
My favorite memory is when I was about 7 and my sister was 4. We were staying at my grandparents cabin, fishing off the dock with dad. The school of perch were biting so fast that dad was having trouble keeping up with the fish that needed to come off the hook. He finally quit baiting the hooks and we were still catching fish! It was truly a feeding frenzy that evening. Thank you for the great give-away and the wonderful walk down memory lane. Take care and God bless, Cory
My favorite beach is on a small NC barrier Island called Shackleford Banks and is only accessable by boat. We have had so much fun there over the years with family and friends. It is so natural and we have even had close encounters with the Island ponies!
My childhood summers were spent along the shore of Lake Erie. My grandparents rented a small cottage all summer long. It was not fancy (more 60′s & 70′s costal shabby) but the memories are very rich. All of us kids would wake up in the morning and instantly be in our swimsiuts. We would say good morning to Poppy (my grandfather) who was up since the crack of dawn reading one of his latest Louis LaMore books. We then would grab breakfast, and after breakfast we headed down to the lake to swim. You would not see any of us kids until the next meal time and no we would not wait an hour after we ate to go back into the water either. I could and would love to write on about every little fun memory but I won’ t but I will say that is was a million dollar childhood summers that I can not ever get back.
I grew up in northern Florida, and every summer we’d make a couple day trips to Pensacola Beach. I remember chasing the waves and collecting all the tiny pink and purple shells I could find. I now live in Washington State, and last summer visited Ruby Beach. It was a completely different experience to walk on a beach that was all smooth rocks and driftwood surrounded by tall pines!
My favorite beach is in Clinton, CT…my great uncle has a cottage there and we used to go when we were little. Fab family memories. We’re going back this summer for the first time in about 25 years – can’t wait!
My favourite beach is the one I grew up with in Weymouth. It’s not the huge public beach but a tiny privately-owned beach hidden away at the bottom of a long flight of stairs in Portland Harbour. Beautiful golden sand, a shallow slope into clear water and a jetty to jump off for the brave. We don’t mention the sand fleas, seaweed, nipping crabs and the sailing club launch!
All the beaches close to me now have pebbles and they are not as nice to sit on but equally peaceful and calm!
I definitely am a beach girl! I try to go to the beach at least once every summer. I am loving the crabs, starfish fabrics. The Plaid is a wonderful complement!
My favorite beach memory is camping on the beach in Galveston before they closed the beaches down to camping. We parked and camped right on the beach a whole week and I was the happiest girl in the world! Those were the good old days.
Second favorite would be staying at a hotel practically right on the beach in Corpus Christi. It was a man made beach and so lovely.
I’ve been to Bar Harbor, ME with my Dad who grew up in Maine. Man, that water is cold! He dove right in;but, I could only stand there and shiver. LOL.
I try to go to a beach or nearby ocean whenever I travel and if I’m close by. I went to one in Rhode Island, in Connecticut, and Florida. Beaches/Oceans are just my thing.
My favorite memory: my kids and I were on the beach. It was cold and we were in shorts, no jackets, no shoes. It started to rain and we just stayed. We played in the water, going form one rock to another. Tide was coming in so I new we were going to stop soon. My youngest got stuck on a rock when the big wave came in and she got a little scared as the water touched her toes and I could not get to her. But the wave went back out and her brother recued her. He saved the day. We went back up to the house and cuddled under blankes and drank hot chocolate. Great times!!
I used to go to Cape Cod every summer with my family, and I would dig holes in the sand and fill them with water, which earned me the nickname “Ellen Walk-In-The-Mud”.
Although I live in Central Florida, I am not a beach bum. But I love all things tropical and coastal. When my friend comes down from Ohio, we hit the beach and walk, watch the sea gulls and the best part is the sunset. Florida has THE most gorgeous sunsets. I love the beach at Fort DeSoto Park. It is quiet and not overrun with people. A perfect spot to sit and watch the waves as the sun descends into the Gulf of Mexico.
Hmm, favorite beach? Gotta be the Oregon coast, though no one beach in particular. Of course, I’ve only been to a couple of other beaches, so maybe I need some more experience? Regardless, this line of fabric is awesome, and is sure to make this currently land-locked lady feel a bit more at home! Thanks!
I miss the beach! I grew up in the Northwest and now live in the Intermountain West. There are lake beaches, which I’m just discovering, but two years ago I had tiny kids and not enough adventuring spirit to discover them so we created a beach in our back yard. Ok so it was more of a mud hole in the garden, but it was great fun. I miss the tidepool filled beaches, and the pools of water near glaciers that I played in as a kid. Those are fun beaches….animals to discover and hypothermia to overcome.
No don’t think I am a beach person, but I am a sun person. We moved from the UK to France to get more hours of sunshine. I like to be near water but not necessarily the sea, I am quite happy to sit beside a lake or a river or even in my garden, as long as the sun is shining I am happy.
Oh my goodness! It’s as if this fabric was designed with all my loves in mind!! I absolutely love it. I must have it!! I am going to make the Beachin quilt for my Father in law who lives at the beach and needs a good homemade quilt! Love it! Thank you for introducing me to Crazy Old Ladies! I am in love!
I’m a midwest girl so beach to me always meant Lake Michigan. The dunes are beautiful and it was always a fabulous outing when my parents would take us up there in the summer. There were even clay pits to play in which sound weird but it was so much fun!
Love this fabric line – I’m an East Coast girl now and I live by the Jersey and Delaware beaches, this would be the perfect summer quilt for myself and my husband to take to the beach!
FAVORITE BEACH IS ST AUGUSTINE,FL! OUR LAST FAMILY GET-TOGETHER WAS THERE! THANKS FOR SHARING!
I live in South Florida and the best beach is Hollywood Beach. We go there often. But my favorite memory is when my son was baptized there.
When I was young, my dad had a buddy with a beach house near Orange Beach. We didn’t go to the beach often so I was really stoked when Dad told us we were heading there for a few days one summer. I told all my friends and bragged about staying at a beach house… We pull in the driveway and not only is the place not on the beach and not close to town, but it’s pepto-bismol pink. Needless to say, I “forgot” to take pics for everybody to see the fabulous place.
I will always love the beaches of West Michigan – beautiful sand, plenty of dunes to climb, cute little lakeshore towns, lighthouses, and plenty of boating and fishing opportunities. Lake Michigan has everything the ocean has and more. : ) And I’ve never been able to get used to swimming in ocean salt water after enjoying fresh water beaches throughout my childhood!
We live FAR from the beach – so we’ve never been, but would love to go someday:-)
this looks like such a fun collection, thanks for the chance to win!
My best beach memories are from years ago when I spent a year in Italy. I had a whole summer with friends and went to small stretches of beach near Pescara only locals knew about. Very quiet and private!
My best beach memories are from the summer I spent in Santa Cruz, CA. We had a great time exploring the coast from Monterey to San Francisco.
I haven’t been to too many beaches in my life since I have lived in South Dakota most of my life. I did spend a year south of Houston, Tx so we went to Galveston Beach a lot and that was fun. Also my husbands mom lives near Corpus Christi, TX and that beach is even better. We went there for Christmas one year and it was very strange to me to be walking on the beach on Christmas!
I LOVE this fabric collection SO much. I grew up on the rural shores of the Chesapeake Bay so I have a LOT of beach stories. But I’ll tell this one because I love the crab prints… We had a crab pot off the dock and in the summer we’d cook crabs all the time. One time a big male crab decided he didn’t want to stay in the pot so he climbed out, jumped (or so it looked) off the stove and started running around the kitchen floor. The cat thought it was a good toy and started batting at. Well the crab pinched onto her paw and wouldn’t let go. The cat went running through the house with this crab desperately hanging on. We eventually seperated the two creatures but then sat down for a good long laugh.
I love the beaches in Ireland, especially Connemara where we holiday each year! Perfect for beachcombing!!!
My siblings and I got together with our children a few years ago and rented a beach house at Bethany Beach in Delaware. We all had a wonderful time and the cousins loved being together. We’re doing it again this year (different beach), and there are a few more cousins added to the mix. We can’t wait!
I live near the beach in Charleston, SC and have been looking for fabric for a quilt to take on my trips to the beach. This would be perfect!
Love the clear and bright colors of this line. I love to go walking on the beach!
Well-it’s a little hard to pick a favorite beach when you live in Hawaii and are surrounded by beach. But I’ll pick Hanauma Bay which is about 2 miles from my home on Oahu. It isn’t really a swimming or surfing beach-it’s all about snorkeling & being inside an aquarium of tropical fish. And it is shallow, even little kids and non-swimmers can partake in its beauty.
I love this collection & absolutely can’t wait for it to come out!
My husband and I just moved to the beach. I’m hoping we start creating lots of great beach memories this summer
. Thanks for the giveaway! What a fantastic line!!!
We have a beach not far from our house, and love to go there on Sunday afternoons for dinner bbq’s.
ourbusylittlebunch(at)hotmail(dot)com
That was a fun interview. I’ve been to beaches all over the world, but the absolute most beautiful, private, special beach is Carter’s in Nova Scotia, Canada. I’ve collected sand dollars there since I was a little girl and look forward to walking in that white sand every time I’m in the Maritimes. The water is like ice, but it’s Caribbean blue!
Going to the jersey shore has been a part of my whol life! When we were little it was Ocean City, MD and now I’m lucky enough to have a sister with a house in Bay Head, Nj! Excited to get my daughter to love the beach as well! So excited about Going Coastal!
What a phenomenal first fabric line, I love them all!
And to win that juicy fat quarter, my favorite beach memory is laying/sleeping on the beach as a very young child with a towel over my head, the smell of the water/sand/sun tan lotion (no protection at that time!), the sounds of the waves and kids playing and the warmth of the sun on my skin. To this day, I love the smell of my skin after being outside in the summer time. Bliss! x0x0
I’d never seen a sand dollar in real life before I went to Figure Eight Island NC, and found three, amazing beaches there, first time sea kayaking too. Would love to make a beach quilt, backed with oilcloth from this.
I would love to win this fabric, but if I don’t, I know I’ll still be buying a lot of it. Just seems to be a perfect fit with the beach lifestyle here in Charleston SC!
My favorite place for a beachy vacation is Maho Bay Camps on St. John, US Virgin Islands. Camping in the Caribbean, I cannot imagine anything finer or more relaxing! But this line reminds me more of the beaches at home, Long Island Sound that is, with its salty, algae tang, gentle waves, horsehoe crabs, lush coastal plants and water that gets warm enough for humans just at the same time it gets warm enough for the jellyfish!
Stinson Beach in California. We used to take our kids alot when we lived in the bay area. Beautiful drive.
I am ALL about the ocean from being born in LaJolla and growing up in Southern California. My favorite childhood memories are of spending every day of summer vacation on the beach.
Thanks for a chance at a sample of Going Coastal!
I was lucky enough to go to a beach in Hong Kong last summer. It was the best/most relaxing part of our whole trip!
I am from the Alberta prairies and don’t have a lot of experience with the beach. When I see the crops blowing in the wind I often think of the sea. This summer my husband and I are taking our four young children to the Maritimes and Boston and Maine. We want them to have a beach experience. This fabric is great and it is an amazing first debut.
This is one of my favorite new fabric lines. I’m a Southern California native, so I grew up at the beach and love the beachy vibe of all of these prints. But I confess to especially adoring those bottle caps! Nostalgia to the nth degree!! I can’t wait to get my hands on this fabric!
Count me in..I really like this line! It is different from so many of them that I see!
Heading to the Atlantic and the Pacific this summer – my Michigan-born kids have never seen the ocean. But – beaches on the Great Lakes are absolutely lovely (with no jellyfish to watch out for!)
My beach growing up was Seaside Oregon. We would take day trips out there often. Now that I live in Florida, I have to explain to people that Oregon beaches are only warm about 3 months a year, and the rest of the time its sweatshirt and jeans at the beach, because its too cold/windy to wear anything else!
passé-a-grille beach near st pete, fl!
I love the beaches along the lower portion of the South Carolina coastline, such as Folly Beach, Edisto, Beaufort State Park, etc. I prefer uncluttered, natural beaches over developed tourist attractions. I will be at Kiawah this summer for a week, can hardly wait to smell that wonderful sea breeze!
When I was younger, my grandparents lived right on the Chesapeake Bay in Maryland. I loved going over there for swimming, boating, and catching fresh crabs for dinner! I’m taking my family to the beach next month and I can’t wait!
My daughter lives in San Diego, 5 minutes from the Pacific. I love it there because I get to play with my grand daughters in the sand!
I really, really like this line. When I was younger, I almost got stuck on a big rock with some friends because of the rising tide. We weren’t native beach people, so we were naive about the comings and goings of the tides! Thankfully we realized in time that our route to land was quickly disappearing!
My favorite beach is the Outer Banks of North Carolina! But growing up we made trips to South Padre Island when we were visiting my grandparents.
“I hate the … beach, with the sand getting everywhere!”
Is what a very famous Scottish comedian says.
I don’t!
There are a few things that make most people happy instantly:
first snow
coming onto the beach (and seeing the see, hearing the calm rithm of the surf)
I live near a wetland area, that’s quite a different kind of sea.
But it still smells salty and the wind always blows!
I love it
When I was a teenager, our familiy made a long summer trip through parts of the US. I will always remember the wonderful clear water and the little fish swimming around our feet at Pencacola beach in Florida. One day I would love to go there again, allthough I don´t know what it is like today…
As a child, we used to spend a week at Pismo Beach (California) between Christmas and New Years and ride ATV’s through the sand dunes. Those were the best times!!!
I love the fabric as I love the beach!!!
Living in Florida (although at least an hour from either coast) I have lots of beach memories. My parents used to take us for a week every summer! But one of my favorite beaches is in GA. Tybee Island outside of Savannah is absolutely wonderful! Laidback, small-town, beachy fun!!!
When I was 11 we went to Pawley’s Island in South Carolina and it was my very first time going to the beach. While there some people down the beach caught a ton of blue crabs and gave them to us. We ate blue crabs in everything from soup to pancakes. It was the best trip to the beach I ever had even though I got a 3rd degree sunburn. I love this fabric line because it reminds me of that trip and all the fun we had.
I grew up near Amelia Island and we would go to the beach a lot when I was young. i used to love swimming and playing the ocean until the movie Jaws. After that I wouldn’t go out past my knees.
I love the fabrics, they are so fresh and bright.
I love the crabs, as a Maryland girl! And I think it’s so fun, to have a fresh looking collection that doesn’t look to kitschy. Even if it’s named after “Crazy Old Lady” types.
Well, my best memory of a favourite beach is on the west coast at my grandparents. When the tide was out you could walk for miles picking up shells. Then the water would come surging in bringing new treasures for the next day !
I always loved making sand castles with my cousin and grandparents when I was a little girl, we’d visit my grandparents’ beach house every summer and I learned how to swim in the ocean. Thanks for the giveaway!
Growing up near the Texas Gulf Coast and visiting family in Pensacola Florida were two places I have fond memories of. All that white sand on Pensacola Beach was just amazing alongside the blue-green water. Emily’s beach-y fabrics are delightful!
How summery! I love it
I like going to Turtle Lake where my parents have a cabin/house and are semi-retired. I remember going to Turtle Lake when I was little because my maternal grandparents had a cabin there
I miss the beach . I used to live near it, but now it is a few hours away and the beaches up here are cold.
I am a 73 year old beach bunny! Grew up in San Diego and love the ocean! I especially love the tide pools and the surf breaking against high cliffs! Lived in Florida but back in San Clemente and west coast surf … from San Diego to Washington … to Hawaii! Love it, love it, love it!!!
I live in Portugal and for many years I used to spend vacations in the Algarve (the southern region of the country) that has beautiful beaches. Especially in September and beginning of October, when the weather is still warm but there are very few people on the beach, it is a really nice place to go.
Thanks for the giveaway!

I need a beach vacation! Closest and therefore best: Lake Michigan beach! Love it, especially around Grand Haven/ Muskegon and going further North. Love Going coastal! Great fabric collection and what a great name.
Thanks so much for the give away.
Beachy fabric, my favorite. Great colors
We live in Portland, the beach is an hour away, so we go a lot. We surf, wander tide pools, go on hikes and always have a great time. We live for the beach.
I used to love going to visit my cousins in Vista, CA and going to the beach all day. It was so much fun and we didn’t have a care in the world.
Living in Florida for 29 years we have spent lots of time hanging out at the beach. I’ve always loved the beaches where you could sit under some trees and have a nice cook out. Several of our beaches have picnic tables not too far from the water. You can cook lunch and still keep an eye on the kids. Plus, there is a nice spot in the shade for when you have had a bit too much sun.
I grew upin CT and now live in OR. I sure miss the beaches from the east coast! My fave one was always at Watch Hill in Rhode Island. I remember mom buying grinders at this little shop near the house then driving for an hour to get there and body surfing in the waves all day. They were so HUGE, but then again I was only 6 or 7 yrs old. I miss those times.
My favourite beach is at West Kirby, Wirral, UK, within cyclingvdistance of home and my little girl just loves to make sandcastles and have a picnic there! There is a great walk out to Hilbre Island bird sanctuary that gets cut off by the tides
Going Coastal is a great fabric line – thanks for the giveaway
Not REALLY a fan of the beach, as in sunning and swimming but I do LOVE Cannon Beach,OR. It is usually not HOT enough to warrant a bathing suit in my opinion so I am good in capris and a tank top. We will go there at least twice this summer because BOTH of my kids are working there ALL SUMMER LONG and I miss them so.
I love going to the Santa Monica Pier and walking by the shops and detouring onto the beach. It’s always so colorful and cheerful.
We made a trip to the gulf coast right before the oil spill. So glad we made that trip!
Fripp Island is my favorite beach in S.C. We had a lovely vacation there many years ago with our kids.
I got married on the beach in Destin, FL almost 3 years ago, so yeah, that’s my favorite beach and my favorite beach memory
My family used to vacation each year at the Jersey shore. I remember strolling on the beach early one morning with my cousin and finding a huge horseshoe crab! He swam away after awhile…
My favorite beach is Destin in Florida. My hubby and I are headed there in a week for a “no kids allowed” vacation! Yippee!
When I was 12, we watched a series in science class about marine biologists and I knew that was what I wanted to do the rest of my life. Shortly after that I saw the ocean for the first time and I was in awe. It pretty much cemented the dream of being a marine biologist. We got to comb the beaches for sand dollars and shells and we even saw dolphins in the distance! It was the best and was always in the back of my mind when I was in college working (pulling my hair out) on ridiculous exams in organic chem, bio chem, etc. so I could become what I dreamed about when I was 12. When I saw this fabric line I knew I had to have it!
Sitting on the beach in Hawaii on Christmas day is one of my favorite beach memories.
My favorite beach is Hilton Head. I really love that bottle-cap fabric! j-j-s AT juno DOT com
I’m not really a beach person, but last fall I went to Satellite Beach, FL – amazing! Perfect weather in October and no one on the beach!! Double perfect! Loved it! Plus, I won the trip!!! debgiro at wildblue dot net
My favorite beach is about twenty steps from my back door – I am lucky enough to live on a lake and I love everything about it.
my favorite beaches are on the central coast. i love beaches in the off time – winter, chilly beaches are my favorite.
The best beach was in Hawaii. Thanks for the giveaway.
My favorite beach memory is surf fishing in the Gulf of Mexico. Thanks for the giveaway!
Favorite beach is Corolla in the Outer Banks.
My favorite beach would have to be the beach in Ft. Lauderdale/Hollywood, FL. Beautiful and pristine. Can’t get too much Florida sun. No I am NOT a Snowbird. We live in Florida 6 months and 1 day or more out of the year. And Missouri 5 months and 20+ days.
St. George Island in Florida. Spent many days there with my grandparents. We live less than two hours aways so it was a great day trip.
My favorite beach is at a small lake here close to my home. When I take my kids there they play in the sand for hours.
My favourite beach is on Sandy Cay in the BVI’s. We anchor the sailboat and swim into the beach. Sandy Cay is a small uninhabitated island that is a nature preserve – so your own private beach if you hit it right and no one is there with you. Very beautiful! I live lakeside without a beach but our home is very beach inspired – I could do lots with Going Coastal fabrics.
my hometown beah, the one i can stroll on every day – McCrae Beach, a tiny town with our own lighthouse. From my sewing room at night i hear the sounds of the waves, it makes for a peaceful and passionate stitching. I have to say Going Coastal range is a standout and i can see it blending with much in my stash.
My favourite beach is Cronulla in Sydney’s southern suburbs NSW Australia. It is the beach of my youth, where you caught the train to Cronulla station and a short walk latter you are on the golden sands of the beach. As a small child my uncle was a lifesaver at this beach, many family picnics were held in the park between the station and the beach.
Being in the middle of winter thinking about summer is fun, thanks for the opportunity to win this great range of fabric
I love the beach. I remember when I was 13 we spent a month at the beach and I never forgot it. We are trying to a week for our grandkids each year.
As newlyweds my husband & I moved to Houston…often we would take Sunday drives down to Galveston as it was so different than ND & MN where we grew up. We stayed there often for anniversaries or at a friends beach house. Now that we’re back in MN (with kids), it is the place our children are most anxious to go!
Thanks for the chance to win!
St Augustine in Florida or Monterey in California.
Wow, I was eyeballing some of Emily’s patterns for one of the giveaways recently…
Anyway, favourite beach? Hmm, Grant’s Beach (I think it’s called that) in SF with the view of the Golden Gate, or maybe the 90 Mile Beach, in Victoria, Australia, particularly the area around Cape Conran. Or the beaches around Mallacoota in far eastern Victoria, Australia. Or even the surf beach at Kilcunda, Victoria with the massive waves sweeping in from the Southern Ocean. (I can never decide on an absolute favourite)
I’ve never been to the beach, but this fabric sure does make me want to book a flight right now!!
These fabrics are just so wonderful, especially love the bottletops. We live a long way from the beach so Christmas holidays sometimes include a trip to the beach.
Happy days.
Bev.xoxo
Best beach memory, the first time I got to put my feet in the ocean. What a rush. Being from Oklahoma, seeing the ocean and playing in the ways, priceless.
This is such a beautiful collection. I can close my eyes and picture a seaside cottage decorated with quilts and hangings and pillows! Such gorgeous colors!
In one weeks time, we are going to the beach for one week! With our two little sons and our friends (including two more little boys)…
It would be fun to win the gorgeous FQ of Emily! And to create holiday souvenirs out of these fabrics!
We used to go up to northern Michigan to a place called Hardy Dam. I have the best memories of that place. We went every weekend from April through October from the time I was born until I was off to college. My dd finally got rid of the place when I was 50!! My kids loved going there too and they have so many lovely memories of not only the place but also of their grandfather. Thanks for the opportunity to relive these fond memories!!
i have too many wonderful beach memories to pick a favorite! this summer i’m going to ocean park, maine (i went there last summer) and i’m soooo excited!!! countdown to vacation!
My favorite beach is the tiny strip of sand right outside my granddad’s river place. It is NOTHING compared to ocean beaches, but I have so many great memories there. Including catching blue crabs scuttling along the jetties. I totally love Crabby Patty!
Walking on the beach at Gulf Shores (Alabama), very, very early one morning and finding a huge cluster of pretty pink shells only waist deep in beautiful, crystal blue water. They were so perfect & so wonderful I wondered if the tourism department had just been by with the shell truck!
Being near the water always gives me a sense of calm and relaxation. I just love being on a beach near the water. I honestly can’t really say that I have a favorite beach, but as a child I loved going to Muskegon MI where they had huge sand dunes. My brothers and I first learned how to sand surf there and our parents bought each of us a sand surf board ~ yes, seriously they do make them. Now though, after years of erosion and in some cases, city improvements, those huge dunes are much smaller sadly. I have seen a lot of pictures of the coastal areas near North and South Carolina and really would love to go there because they look so serene and beautiful.
I too just adore Emily’s fabrics. Each design is gorgeous and so colorful.
I love squeaky beach at Wilson’s Prom here in Victoria, Australia, as the name suggests it squeaks as you walk along it.
Beautiful collection. I love the bottle caps and the sand dollars. Just beautiful and fully captures the feel of the beach.
Our favorite beach is Terra Mar in Carlsbad, CA. It is our hometown beach so it is nice and close by.
Wow, the bottle cap fabric, and the starfishes…and the crabs…I love them all!
I grew up in Oregon, so my best beach memories are about the rugged Oregon coast. When I was a kid, I remember thinking that if I just looked *hard* enough, I’d be able to see Japan on the horizon. I knew it was over there somewhere! Trips to the beach always included a little time spent “looking for Japan.”
I grew up in Barbados and loved swimming there, but after I got caught in a wave and tumbled all around I started preferring the pool for swimming, the beach for playing lol
I grew up in Southern California and going to the beach was almost a weekly event each summer. But now I also love, love, love Edisto Island off the coast of South Carolina where we took our young children each summer while living in the South. Warm waters, searching for shark’s teeth and low country boils!
My favorite beach vacation – has to be Morro Bay in Central California. We totally fell in love with the little town and the big rock. Even better, I later discovered Erleane Fowler’s Benni Harper Mystery series, all with quilt patterns as their names, takes place in the same area. Does it get any better than quilty mysteries at the beach?
I’d love to make a quilt out of these beachy prints…I’m thinking something for my boy to take off to college.
I love the ocean and the mountains, so walking my dog on the beach in Comox, BC (Goose Spit) is my favorite beach memory. It’s rarely busy (in fact often in the winter, there is no one there!) Lovely water, views of the mountains and sand!
I think your prints are gorgeous and I’d love to create with them!
I adore the warm water beaches of Hawaii because I love to snorkel and see all of the tropical fish and sea turtles, but also I love the beaches of Southern California! I love the sound of the waves rolling in and out and crashing. To me it is so peaceful – almost mesmerizing! This collection is so happy! It evokes great memories for me as well!
We love going to Myrtle Beach in S.C. and also the Outer Banks in N.C. I would love to win this bright, fresh fabric line. Great interview.
Love the warm sunshine on your skin, the sand between your toes, the salty smell of the ocean and the relaxing momentum of the waves coming in and going out. Love this new line and fabulous write up! I’ll be buying some for sure whether or not I win!!
Ruth Wright
I’m another Lake Michigan girl…love the Traverse City area beaches and the Sleeping Bear Nat’l Lakeshore…my idea of the perfect vacation spot. The fabric by the ‘Crazy old ladies’ is fabulous! The bottle cap print is my favorite. Thanks for the giveaway.
Oh, I love those fabrics! My favorite beach memories are from Stone Harbor NJ as a child. I can totally bring back the sounds the smells when i close my eyes!
I grew up near Wrightsville Beach, N. C. I love this beach , white sand and sand dunes. Now I live in Georgia and love Tybee Island and Saint Simon’s Island beaches. I love the starfish, crabs, and bottle caps. Now I just need some greasy fries in a paper cone with ketchup poured on the top – a favorite beach food.
Thanks for a chance to win the beachy fabric.
When I was young, our beach house had beds that hung on chains. There were 3 across the front, then one side had them end to end and a couple on the back. We were not allowed on the front three, because we would break the windows having battles on the beds. We spent many a summer day playing on those beds and running across the hot sand to the water. Love your fabric line and it really brings back memories.
When my brothers and I were little my dad would take us to the beach every summer. We would go quite a few times and the memories of burying each other in the sand and body surfing, making sand castles are what I remember. FUN!!
I LOVE Tybee Island. I went once and I will never forget it.
This is my absolute favorite new collection of this year. I can’t wait to get my hands on it. What was the question? Oh, yeah…..I am fortunate to live about 2 miles from the beach in So. California and make it to the beach frequently. But some of my favorite memories are as a child we used to go to Rosarito beach in Baja, California (sadly, it isn’t as nice now as it used to be) and camp by the beach. There were always huge abalone shells to be found and the water was clear.
In Jersey UK there are so many beaches ! Too many to count I think ..St Ouens is quite nice, but it can get VERY crowded in the Summer so St Brelades is also nice. Not to mention the secret beaches
My favorite beach? Growing up and still living in SW Ohio…just about any ocean beach is great!
I love Nantucket and Acadia National Park beaches! Can’t wait to see the fabric in person, thanks for the giveaway.
We live in VA so VA Beach is close enough to enjoy on a regular basis. But I have to say that Hilton Head, SC is one of my favorites to visit. I love this collection as much as I love the beach. Thanks for the chance to win it!!
I live just a few blocks from the beach in a little town in Wahsnington state and this fabric makes me think of all the fun on the beach with the kids, the sun, the water and friends. Such good times!
My favourite beach is down the road from my mother’s house. A proper Australian beach, just dunes, sea, sky and seagulls.
I love the beach in Cancun!
I’m totally in love with this, especially the starfish prints! Great way to capture the beachy feel!
P.s. Looking at my favorite Lake Michigan beach in South Haven right now! It was a perfect beach day…until the rain rolled I!
Great fabric! Favorite beach memory — making elaborate sand castles with my dad when I was a kid
We haven’t been to many beaches, but Cocoa Beach in Florida was fun! We will be visiting the beach near San Diego at the end of the month. I am so excited!
Such a great collection! My kids call me the Crazy Quilting Dog Lady of Chagrin Falls, Ohio. Oh yeah. Throw a couple terriers into the mix and you are really crazy cakes!
My favorite beaches for sure are in the coastal carolinas. Heavenly!
I was 15 and my entire family (mom, dad, 3 brothers) moved to an entirely new country. It was a very stressful time for the family… but my mom & grandmother found a beach house for us to rent for the first month while we looked for our permanent housing. We spent most days at the beach… playing in the water, making sand castles… or riding bikes through the costal town to get ice cream. Spending that summer just half a block from the ocean was the best transition we could have had.
Wow! These fabrics are wonderful! We love going to Cherry Grove, NC…North Myrtle Beach! It is great place to spend time with the family!
Thanks-enjoyed ‘meeting’ Emily and sure hope to find some Coastal to make a quilt for my sister who lives on the Oregon coast (and doesn’t quilt but takes me to shops when I am lucky enough to visit!!).
Great prints, I love a sandy beach with nice overhanging trees so you can lie under the shady branches and have a nice snooze after you’re done swimming.
I grew up on the beaches in Trinidad, but now love going to the beaches on Cape Cod. I love searching for great stones and shells.
Lovely fabric!
I love this collection. It makes me think of the Outer banks Of North Carolina where I grew up going in the summers. I am so lucky that I get to bring my kids there now and watch them play in the surf and sand.
I grew up in Detroit so my favortite beach would be Stoney Creek in Michigan. We spent plenty summers going to there. Nothing like it on a hot July day..
As a native Floridian, my favorite ocean/gulf beaches are Fort Lauderdale, Fernandina, and Panama City. I’ve moved my sea shell collection with me all over the country. The fabric would be great for our home.
What a great collection! The blues and the greys reminds me of the endless stretch of sand at Daytona Beach, Florida. When we were little we would go there to dig up shells during low tide in the summer and feed the sea gulls in the winter.
Thanks for the giveaway!
Best beach area is the Mornington Peninsula. Miles of pristine rugged coastline, on one side and peaceful bay beaches on the other side. We’ve been going there for years and have so many wonderful memories of those times. During all those happy days we have been staying at a friend’s holiday house. I would love to make her a quilt for the house. We are always looking for a blanket to snuggle under during the winter nights.
I’m from Poland and I’ve been on the coast of many European countries, but still my fave beach is in Poland in ?eba:)
Oh and my favourite beach is at fuerteventura ;o) Tons of white sand and nice weather throughout the year…
I love beaches and I love going coastal! I am from Germany and I have never been to the Pacific Ocean but I would love to go someday. I love the beaches of the Atlantic Ocean, never been to one I did not like

Bye
Susanne
i’m from the east cost of Italy called Riviera del Conero, It’s very nice! In the honey moon i went in Cancun …Fantastic!!
Ciao and thank’s for the chance!
First time visiting my daughter in San Jose I saw the Pacific Ocean, we were driving south of Highway one to see Hearst castle- the rocks and the white beaches- that’s huge for a Dane.
One summer, my Dad started working in a logging camp. As we were a large family of 8 kids, we had to wait for available housing in the camp before we could join him. Of course we didn’t know this and felt very special when Mom and Dad asked us if we wanted to live on the beach for the summer. It was so much fun for us, living in a tent, playing hide and seek in the driftwood, swimming every day, sandy sandwiches. I think the best end to everyday was listening to the gentle lapping of the waves so close to our ears. It wasn’t until 40 years later that I actually found out about the truth of our adventure on the beach. This didn’t spoil the memory and looking at the coastal line really brought back those memories. Thanks!
One of the nicest beaches I’ve been to is Magens Bay in St. Thomas, Virgin Islands. Absolutely gorgeous.
Block Island is my fave.
When I was young my family went to a magical place in Destin, Florida. Four Mile Village was off the beaten path, miles from town, with beautiful sand dunes and crystal clear waters. The beach houses were classic Florida wood frame, no air conditioning and you could hear the waves and wind all day long. Today Four Mile Village is a nature preserve under the conservancy of the Sierra Club and is still beautiful and pristine. Emily Herrick’s collection evokes the memories of those long ago beach vacations and I love it!!
This fabric might be the cutest stuff I’ve ever seen. Both of my boys love the beach, and my wheels start spinning on what I would do with this fabric. The possibilities are endless!!!
My favorite beach would have to be Magens Bay Beach in St. Thomas, V.I. I live in Florida and I’d have to say my second favorite is Siesta Key, the sand is super white and so fine! Then there’s that beach in Hawaii with black sand that’s good too…. I better quit! Thanks for the chance.
One of my favorite memories is being on a blanket at the beach and snack time had finally arrived. Out comes the pudding cups that you shake and it’s magic pudding.
I would have to say one of the best beach memories is when I rented a beach house in Emerald Isle, NC and couldn’t get anyone to go with me. I went anyhow and had a great time. I ended up people watching the first day and watched an awesome guy. We ended up spending the week together and had a great time. I also have to say how proud I am of Emily and this line. I only met her once at her fabric sale before I moved away from UT. She is truly a very nice person and I’m so glad that she came out with this line I LOVE IT!!!
I love the sunrises and sunsets on the beach….my husband of 20 years proposed to me on the beach….precious memories!
Picnics at Stinson Beach and Big Sur in Northern CA with my family…fun times!
my favorite beach memory is going to south padre with my family as a kid and burying my dad in the sand. can’t wait to create beach memories with my own kids.
Broadbeach on the Gold Coast of Queensland Australia is one of my favourites as it’s a great holiday destination, but Wineglass Bay in Tasmania is one of the prettiest.
I’ve been to alot of california beachs but none still beat our local county beach at Buck Lake in northern Wisconsin. Huge grassy knoll with great sand beach faces the lake on 3 sides. Great place to take little kids & the teenagers like it too.
I love Gulf coast beaches in Florida. I was about 14 years old the first time I visited a beach with a friend’s family. My fondest memory is taking a trip on a catamaran. We had so much fun!
Any beach in Kauai!
We love beaches! We lived in So Cal, and frequented Redono often when we visited family. Just recently we lived in NC for 4 years and fell in love with the beaches out there! Then a couple of years ago we had a family vacation in Hawaii and loved the North Shore!
I LOVE this fabric line and would love to win this! Thanks for the chance!!
My grandparents spent their retirement years about half a mile from a beach and I remember walking with them down to the pier and sitting every evening to watch the sun go down. 15 years later I took pictures of them sitting on the same bench with our son – and a year later my Grampa died. That picture is definitely one of my all-time favourites.
Thank you for interviewing Emily and for sharing her goodness!
I’m lucky enough to live in Cornwall, where there is no-place futher than 17 miles from the sea. I love Treen, but Mary I also love Gwithian Sands for surfing.
I grew up on the south coast of England, not far from a beach called Calshot. It is on Southampton water and is directly opposite Cowes on the Isle of Wight. there is always something to see with huge cruise liners, container boats, sailing yachts, hovercraft and ferry boats chugging back and forth to the island.
My family own a little beach hut where you can change in private, make drinks and food, plus shelter from the sun and wind. Even on a winter day it’s beautiful and sheltered enough for a hot chocolate or soup by the sea.
I moved from the coast when I married, but my children had happy holidays back with their grandparents by the sea and even now they’re all grown they still love to visit the beach hut and walk by the sea.
The fabrics are beautiful and have awakened my longing for the sea.. I think I’ll just ring my mum and see if we can pop down this weekend!
Ruth x
The beaches along Lake Michigan in Michigan, with my favorite being at Muskegon State Park, Lake Michigan Campground where we camp as a family muitple times a summer, or stay close to home and enjoy South Haven and Holland, right between both!!
Haven’t spent much time at beaches (I love in Northern Canada!), but I spent a few months in Australia and Brazil surfing, and the memories still make me smile!
In the words of my 3 year old, “Holy moley guacamole!!” This line is fantastic. I want the crabs, the plaid and the bottle caps like now!!
I grew up in So. Cal so I guess that’s why it grabs me so. Would definitely use it in a quilt for my sons bedroom. It would be perfect!!!!
My favorite beach is Folly Beach in South Carolina!
I really like Jibbon Beach outside of Sydney, Australia which I went to a couple of times when I used to live far across the world. Beautiful golden sand and blue-green sea, and very few people due to being a way out of the city. Lovely and quiet.
This line sings to me! I spent years as a commercial fisher-woman in
the summers of my…er youth. I love Gleneden beach on the Central
Oregon coast.
I grew up a couple blocks away from a beautiful Lake Michigan beach in Wisconsin – never realized how neat that was until I left! The weather wasn’t conducive to swimming much, but it was gorgeous!
Growing up, I was a TOTAL beach bum. We lived a half hour away from Long Island Sound, and spent all day every day at the beach in the summer. Swim team, tennis lessons, playing in the sand and making castles on the flats at low tide, watching sailboat races on the Sound on weekends… Oh hell, now I’m all nostalgic and stuff!
(PS–that madras print? Reminds me of the shorts my uncle and grandfather wore at the beach all summer. I ADORE it!)
My favorite beach is Huntington Beach, in Southern Cal. It’s the beach of my childhood and has the “beachiest” memories for me.
Oh, my goodness! Someone heard my cries for beach-themed fabric! Thank you, thank you…..
My favorite sandy spot is any beach, but I love any North Carolina beach, Corolla is high on the list.
Thanks for a fantastic giveaway.
yum, beach inspired fabric – thanks for this giveaway – its nice to dream of the beach while its pouring rain and windy outside – my favourite beach is Primrose Sands, a gorgeous little beach in southern Tasmania (Australia) where my family had a holiday house when I was younger – I love that beach and still collect a handful of sand whenever I go there for my sand and shell jar at home !
Love these fabrics – my favourite beach is Byron Bay in Australia!
I’ve never seen the oceans, so I’ll have to live vicariously with these lovely fabrics. Love these prints.
I have been going to Topsail Beach, NC since I was a young child! The tradition has continued with my husband and son. Thus summer marks our 6th summer as a family ( including my Mom in this group), and we are determined to continue until we are old and gray!!! It is by far the best time of the year for all of us!
I love beaches but unfortunatly I don’t have some close to where I live
I have fantastic memories of a beach in Mirissa southern Sri Lanka, some really nice evenings with food laughter and perfect sunsets
maybe I have to return one day
I live in the San Francisco Bay area – I always smile because we have beaches, but I guarantee that no one wants to go swimming – rocky, cold, windy etc. So you can always tell the tourist – someone with a blanket and frisbee and beach ball – but we usually bring coats if we are going to the beach!
I live by the sea in England but the beach is a stoney one. My favourite beach is the South Beach in Port Fairy, Victoria, Australia. It’s the town that my husband is from, I love visiting it as it means we are spending some time with his family and reducing his homesickness temporarily (and its absolutely stunning). Great fabrics
North Gong beach in Australia has to be my favorite if only for all the wonderful memories I have there.
My favorite beach memory is watching the sun set over Hawaii the night my husband proposed.
I grew up riding my beach cruizer to Newport Beach & Balboa, loved the ocean. Now, I live in the desert. My closes beach in in Lake Tahoe. I miss the waves crashing, the seagulls …. vacations now take us back to the beach. I LOVE everything there is to love about your new fabric line and my mind is now on overdrive on all the wonderful things I could do with it! Wonderful!
My favorite beach would have to be in Tofino, such rugged beauty there! Oregon’s beaches are for sure right up there as well!
I’m not much of a beach person as far as sun goes, but I love walking along a beach on cloudy days and just looking at the water. I’m partial to the beaches in Chicago along Lake Michigan.
I love Carmel Beach in California….beautiful white sand and and a lovely little town connected! Very charming. I am loving this fabric also! Thank you for the opportunity to win.
My favorite beach is whichever one I’m on! My favorite memory is learning how to shag on a beach in North Carolina.
I also love Seal Beach…nothing more fun than watching the elephant seals!
I also love morro bay!
I grew up in San Diego so going to the beach was a huge part of our summer. I loved making sandcastles with my brothers and hunting for shells along the edge of the water.
Stinson Beach in northern California. I spent many a summer day there when I was a teenager….
Hope the chance to win isn’t closed yet…so excited for this fabric to come out…I’m a Cajun girl and this will make an awesome quilt! Lisa in Texas
