If you are anything like our family then the build up to Christmas involves copious amounts of baking. When I got married, not only did I get myself a husband but I also was handed 4 sides of laminated A4 cards covered with recipes for baking Christmas cookies. And come what may every Christmas I have to bake each and every one of the recipes on those cards regardless of whether anyone in our house actually eats the cookies or not.
Whenever I start rolling my eyes at the prospect of endless baking, I remember that it is a family tradition for my husband and that my girls simply love helping out. To make the whole thing a bit more fun for me I decided that each year I would make my girls some aprons to help with the baking, and thereby stamp my print on the family tradition. (my poor girls – not only will they have to carry on the baking tradition when they are grown up but they will also have the task of sewing aprons!!!)

When I saw Novella, a new line by Valori Wells, I just knew it would be perfect for this year’s aprons. And it totally is! Head on over to the Freespirit blog to find the tutorial for how to make this simple apron. You could whip up a couple by lunchtime!
You can download the template here.

Do you have a copy of Electric Quilt on your computer? If you haven’t it really is worth looking into. It is my go to when I want to check my cutting instructions expecially when resizing blocks and for trying out different fabric combinations in a quilt design. Much as pen and paper are great for designing there is nothing like being able to see the design in the fabrics you are planning on using before you start sewing!

edited to add: And even if you don’t have EQ you can still use My EQ Boutique as each pattern comes with a free software download which enables you to print out the blocks at whatever size you would like!!! (Thanks AnneMarie for pointing that out!)
If you’ve got a copy of Issue 11 of Fat Quarterly you’ll find a coupon on page 2 for a discount off purchases over $20. Head over to My EQ Boutique right now as this offer expires on 5 November.

Have you visited Threadbias.com? It’s an online community aimed just at sewers. You can upload photos, join groups, chat in forums and just absorb the fabulous inspiration.

But as well as being a place online where sewists can get together, Threadbias has developed a quilt design tool which can be used within a browser rather than having to download any software onto your machine.
The tool is totally independent of whether you have a PC or Mac and can be used anywhere that you can access the internet so you aren’t tied to designing in one place. You can choose to keep your designs in your own private library or share them with other community members. And because this tool lives online, it’s constantly being upgraded and getting new features so you’ll always have the latest version.
But to get this project off the ground Threadbias need your help. Their Kickstarter campaign is in its final hours and needs you to help make this tool a reality. To find out more about the tool and how you can help, visit their kickstarter page:

We didn’t expect to sell so many tickets so quickly and we know that some of you want to come but haven’t quite got all the funds together right now.
So we’re happy to announce that we have come up with a solution that will allow those of you unable to pay outright for a ticket right now, to purchase a ticket to the retreat in installments.
You can now buy your ticket in 3 installments of £100, £50 and £50 respectively. When you pay for each installment is up to you as long as you have purchased all 3 installments by 15th March 2013.
However, please note that any installments you have purchased are non-refundable should you fail to purchase all 3 by 15th March.
