Some people love quilt maths.  Some people hate it.  Some avoid it.  Some fear it.  Well, if you’re coming to the Fat Quarterly Retreat this summer, hate, fear, avoid no more.  Come and join my quilt maths class.  I’ll be running through calculating binding fabric requirements, calculating backing fabric requirements and calculating sashing requirements for starters.  We’ll then move on to calculating individual fabric requirements for the separate block sections in a quilt of repeating blocks.  We’ll also look at calculating fabric requirements for foundation paper pieced blocks where the pieces tend to be trickier and more awkward.  We’ll also have a go at re-sizing quilt blocks and quilt patterns.  And then, if we have spare time, we’ll squeeze in a little bit of quilt geometry.  The class is designed to be fun, relaxed and easy.  Anyone who feared or failed maths at school should not fear this class.  We will be using calculators (bring your phones!) and using nice easy diagrams (bring tablets loaded with Touchdraw if you have them) and we might even use some pencils, rulers, rubbers, squared paper and colouring pencils because who doesn’t love a bit of drawing and colouring?!
