Today we have a guest post brought to you by Trash who is the appointed social secretary of this year’s Fat Quarterly Retreat.
Hello. My name is Julie McCoy and I shall be your Cruise Director for this trip aboard The Love Boat. Nah, not really. I am Trash and I spend my life shouting at small children for money, stroking yarn & fabric and not finishing projects. My oldest WIP is nearly twice the age of my teenager and it has followed me around the world. Twice.
There are exciting plans afoot for FQR 2014 and it is a great thrill to be a part of them. We will be running online get-togethers beforehand on all sorts of social media so that on arrival everybody will know at least a few someones. That said, everyone attending has the joy of fabric stroking and quilt-fondling in common so finding friendly faces should be easy. In addition we will also be organising swaps in advance again. These will include Nametag Swaps, Sample Swaps, Ugly Fabric Swap and possibly others we haven’t confirmed yet. On a side query – how do you all feel about knowing who is in your Sample Swap Group beforehand?
I am in full flight thinking of fun activities and events for the weekend and hope to have a more comprehensive list up for you by late Spring/early Summer so there is plenty of time for you to plan your time at FQR. Based on the feedback already received we will definitely be holding a meet and greet session, the Pub Quiz, Show & Tell of work (for those of you who actually finish things) and other social occasions as well as the actual teaching classes.
What sort of things would you like to see included at the FQR Retreat weekend? Please throw your tuppenny worth into mix because we really want to make it an event everyone will enjoy.
