The Bookworm quilt is a fantastic pattern that’s one of my personal favorites from Issue 5 (I’ve already started my own!) It was designed by the dynamic duo of Ryan Walsh and Charlie Scott of Patchwork Squared, who used 2 charm packs of the fun new Hullabaloo line by Moda Fabrics. Kits for the Bookworm quilt are available through our fabulous sponsor Above All Fabric.
Subscribers are already enjoying their copies of issue 5 (subscription has its benefits!), and the issue is also now available for purchase on our Buy Now page.
i’m halfway done the quilting on a mini-version of this quilt, i love it! it came together super fast, and was the perfect way to use up a charm pack that had been hanging around waiting for a purpose!
my only question is – am i crazy? in this photo it totally looks like the narrower strips in the blocks are prints, but in the instructions, it says to use solids for them… i used prints, because i already had that in my head from the photo (and because i was too lazy to haul out the rubbermaid full of solids) but i’m curious!
Hi Amy! Thanks so much for your comment! The narrow strips for the blocks are solids. I think the backing fabric is showing through to the front! We prefer a low loft batting and sometimes when the sun shines through the quilt you can see the back.
Can’t wait to see your finished quilt!

Ryan, that makes perfect sense! i was SURE i wasn’t imagining it!
i finished the mini version last week, but i still haven’t gotten around to editing the photos and blogging about it. as soon as i do, i’ll add them to the flickr pool!
