Here at FQHQ, we’re big fans of both Jay and Habitat, but we’ll also admit that his Modern Madness win was a bit unexpected. The line gained momentum throughout the competition — possibly because some fantastic projects made from Habitat have been popping up all over the ‘net lately — and Jay really embraced the spirit of the competition and rallied his fans to get involved and VOTE! Big congrats to Jay, and we hope that Modern Madness has exposed Habitat to some new fans.

We’d also love to hear what you thought of Modern Madness. Did you have fun? Feedback has been (mostly) positive, and we’re thinking of ways to improve upon the game next year. Some ideas: invite designers to participate and submit their lines, look into online bracket submissions and automatic scoring, and better limit voters to one vote apiece. How else can we improve? Let us know by leaving us a comment!
I’ve really enjoyed MM!! It was fun thinking about favourite fabrics and looking up the ones I didn’t know. I’ll play again next year!!
Although I did not keep track my leader board points…but I have enjoyed voting. Oh! Oh! When are we having another MM again?

I agree that the automatic scoring would be better. Perhaps if we all learn to sign in to your site that will be easier. The longer the competition went on, the more I couldn’t remember who I actually voted for. Even though I had filled out my sheet at first. Oh well. I also am interested in how you picked the original fabric lines. Could there be a pre selection to choose those lines?
I love Jay, but I too am pretty surprised at this. But maybe that is clue to future designers. People are clearly ready for pop art non floral fabrics.
I was really surprised that this was the winner but happy too, I love it when there’s an unexpected twist in competitions!!!
This endeavour has lead me to find this line of fabric & I LOVE it – must get me some soon!!
I had a blast doing this with ya’ll! My favorite was so close (Bliss) but I think Jay’s Habitat is beautiful. I’d love to see voting improvements for the next one but please definitively do it again!
Congratulations to Jay!! And thanks FQ, for hosting all this Madness. What a whirlwind! Thank you to everyone who voted for Central Park!! Wouldn’t have made it this far without you. Looking forward to next year! xo
Congrats Jay!!! Congrats too to Kate Spain. I personally voted for Habitat because I appreciate the fact that it’s so different. I hope this is the beginning of a trend towards imaginative design. It’s hard to find something besides florals, prints from the past and computerized elegant wallpaper types.
Well………………call me surprised. *S*
But pleased. It’s just a wonderful collection. Thx for the links to learn more about Jay.
loved it!! (even if my fav’s didn’t win it all.)
wow! that’s really all i can say right now. i am so honored that HABITAT was included and recognized in modern madness. the hardest part was competing against all of the other lines that i admire so very much. i know how much hard work goes into the process of designing and promoting our fabric lines and i would like to congratulate all of the other designers. as far as i am concerned every single line in this contest is a winner! continued success to all of you! i would also like to give a special thank you to fat quarterly for tirelessly promoting and supporting these fabric lines and the amazing projects being made with them. thank you! thank you! thank you!
I am also thrilled Jay won. Quilting cottons need to move beyond the same florals and so on… Habitat is the first line to really interest me in a long time because it’s so different from everything else out there. Hope the fabric manufacturers notice what won here and see that new and different will be completely supported by modern quilters.
I gotta tell you, it was a lot easier that choosing bball brackets!!! Bring it on. I would happily play again next year!

I had fun and managed to get a “line” all the way to the end. I did have difficulty keeping track of the dates for the votes to ensure I voted every time (I did).
I had a great time researching the various collections and discovering some new (to me) designers! After y’all have recovered the from the first madness, I think it would be neat if you had a post about how you selected the fabric lines included in the brackets.
I loved this and was so happy Habitat won, i loved all of the designs though and the links to them all are in my favourites page.
Not being American and being involved in the basketball March Madness i was unsure as to filling in the brackets. Some sort of automated form would be good and i did loose track of scoring quite early on as well!
But please do something else like this, i havent had so much non sewing patchwork fun for a long time.
Thanks for doing this! It was such fun viewing the fabric lines and deciding which were my favorites. I didn’t scrore too well in comparison to others but…. that’s ok because I had fun. My young adult son walked up to me at the computer and saw that I was filling out the brackets. “Mom, why are you filling out brackets”? Me – “March Madness for fabric lines”. Son – rolls eyes and walks away.
